Pat Zappia, SC

Pat Zappia, SC since joining the bar in 2000, has developed a diversified commercial practice in both appellate and trial work. Pat has appeared as counsel in many large, complex and high profile commercial disputes throughout Australia including disputes involving company takeovers, competition law, revenue law, insurance law, professional negligence and trusts. He is regularly briefed to appear in the superior courts including the High Court of Australia.

Pat has appeared for domestic and international clients in a range of industry sectors including banking and finance, manufacturing, professional services, transport, insurance and media and entertainment. He acted for Patrick’s in its takeover dispute with Toll, the trustees of Tattersalls in their claim for commission and more recently, for Channel Seven in its trade practices appeal against News and PBL.

Prior to coming to the bar, Pat was a partner with Phillips Fox. In 1999, Pat completed a Masters in Law at the University of Chicago Law School where he focused on his special interest, competition (antitrust) law. During his period at the law school Pat studied under the tutelage of a number of leading law and economics scholars including Posner, Easterbrook, Fischel and Landes.

Upon his return to Australia, Pat accepted a part time academic appointment with the Monash Law School and since 2000 has been tutoring and lecturing in the law of torts.
