Lisa M Nichols

Lisa M Nichols has substantial experience in acting in complex matters, including in multiparty actions. She has a diverse practice with a strong focus on trade practices, insurance, torts and corporations. Lisa has frequently advised and acted for the ACCC, including in Part IV prosecutions (such as the Visy Industries case) and in consumer claims. She has acted for solicitors and construction industry professionals defending professional negligence claims, including in major complex actions concerning contaminated land. Lisa is experienced in IT related copyright and licence disputes and advises on trademark and copyright infringements.

Lisa has extensive experience in class actions, including in claims arising out of failed investments and breaches of the Corporations Law. She appeared in the High Court in Mobil Oil Australia Pty Ltd v State of Victoria, which examined the constitutional validity of Victoriaís class action legislation. Lisa is a member of the Federal Courtís Class Actions Committee.

Between February 2009 and June 2010 Lisa was Counsel Assisting the 2009 Bushfires Royal Commission.

Lisa was a commercial litigator for 10 years before coming to the bar. She was a partner at Slater & Gordon from 2001 and was the head of its commercial litigation practice in Melbourne where she ran numerous class actions and a diverse range of commercial matters. Lisa acted for Rolah McCabe in her claim against British American Tobacco.

Lisa graduated from Monash University and in 1997 was awarded the Supreme Court Prize.
